Morning Workshops

FEATURE WORKSHOP with LAURA SHANNONHOUSE (Suicide intervention, and treatment and recovery from suicide)

9:00 – 10.30am – Laura Shannonhouse

10:30 – 11:00am – Morning Tea

11:00 – 12:30pm – Laura Shannonhouse – continued….

Health professionals often struggle to determine when their clients with thoughts of suicide are safe enough to engage in therapy work. Dr. Laura Shannonhouse will lead a workshop to help elucidate the difference between suicide intervention, and treatment and recovery from suicide.

Both a suicide intervention model, as well as a treatment and recovery model are provided, along with the results from 6 studies which address (a) suicide intervention skill acquisition, (b) skill usage, and (c) intervention and treatment outcomes.  These studies with clinicians in training provide support for the use of these models in practice in a variety of settings.

Dr. Shannonhouse will be joined by 20-year LivingWorks trainer and coach, Shayne Connell, and LivingWorks trainer and suicide prevention specialist, Marc Bryant for experiential demonstrations throughout.
