Our Board

Suicide Prevention Australia is governed by a Board of Directors in accordance with our Constitution. The Board is supported by Suicide Prevention Australia Management, Suicide Prevention Australia Members and people with lived experience of suicide. Suicide Prevention Australia governance committees include the Policy Committee; Governance Committee; and Audit and Risk Committee.

In addition to supporting the effective governance of Suicide Prevention Australia, members and people with lived experience of suicide help to guide our work as members of Suicide Prevention Australia program advisory committees. Members of our Board, governance and program committees are passionate advocates for suicide prevention in Australia and bring a wealth of insights and lived experience to their role. We’re grateful for their guidance and input.

ANGELA EMSLIE

Director (Chair)

Angela Emslie joined the Board of Suicide Prevention Australia as an Independent Director in 2013 and is a member of the Governance Committee and the Audit and Risk Committee.

PHILLIP CORNWELL

Director (Secretary)

Phillip Cornwell joined the Board of Suicide Prevention Australia in 2014 as an independent director, and chairs the governance committee. He is also Company Secretary and a member of the RAP Working Group at SPA.

LUKE MANN

Director (Treasurer)

Luke joined the SPA Board in May 2015 as treasurer of the organisation. He is currently the Chief Operating Officer of Macquarie’s Commodities and Global Market Cash Equities Business a global institutional

STAN PIPEROGLOU

Stan brings wide experience over a range of fields to the Board of SPA. He has worked in Commonwealth Departments of Prime Minister and Cabinet and Health.

CHRISTOPHER JOHN

Christopher became the Chief Executive Officer for United Synergies Ltd in April 2012 after six years as CEO of Lifeline Hobart, Tasmania. Prior to this Christopher lived in Brisbane and worked at Southbank

Karen Phillips is the General Manager of StandBy Support After Suicide, Australia’s largest suicide postvention program. With a decade of experience in the not-for-profit community sector.

Bronwen Edwards

Director

Bronwen lost her brother Mark to suicide in 2008 after supporting him for a number of years. Bronwen is the founding CEO of ‘Roses in the Ocean’, a lead organisation for lived experience of suicide.
